Bolivia

“Thanks, Caz Loyd for enabling me. Time and again I step out into the unknown assured that I’ll be in excellent hands, and come away with the fondest memories.”

Landscape, culture, festivals, markets

Intriguing, welcoming and still very unspoiled – its way of life in many areas little changed for centuries and its remnants of ancient civilisations asking as many questions as they answer – Bolivia is a wonderful destination for more adventurous travellers.

From its high plateau and the remotely beautiful Lake Titicaca, to its peaceful savannah wetlands, great swathes of steaming jungle, and the blinding-white salt lakes, crimson deserts and volcanoes of the south-west, this a truly bizarre and spectacular country.

Its capital, La Paz, crammed with colourful street markets, ringed by soaring peaks and set at an altitude of 3650 metres will literally take your breath away. We think that, for less adventurous travellers, Bolivia’s poor infrastructure and isolation mean that it often works best to combine a visit there with some time in either Peru or Chile

Best visited: April to December
