The Icing on the Cake

I loved Katavi from the moment I set foot on the ground after a six hour flight. From one of the very first sights; the river absolutely full of hippos playing in the water (I had never seen hippos so I was totally speechless), to the vastness of the landscape dotted with zebra, giraffe and impala. But for me, the icing on the cake had to be the various lions we saw every day.
On the last evening of the trip, my guide Bonny spotted a lioness with two cubs and that was really amazing. The mother had just killed a buffalo calf and after having fed the two little ones, the three of them climbed up a tree away from the flies. We stayed for two hours watching them playing in the grass and then climbing the tree - it was a great way to finish my holiday.
