Space Wonderful Space in Northern Tanzania

I thought I knew what to expect when I arrived at Sasakwa Lodge, the flagship of Singita Grumeti Reserves having studied the brochure avidly but nothing had prepared me for the view. One drives up the steep track from the vast plains below - all 350,000 acres of them - and arrive at a large ranch style house where no detail or comfort has been spared. On walking through the entrance onto the lawn out to the front, I felt as if I was perched on the edge of the world as the vast plains of Grumeti which border the Western Corridor of the Serengeti stretched out before me and it is an almost 360 degree view. It is phenomenal and completely overwhelming.
The swimming pool which edges onto the lip of the escarpment has to be a pool to beat all pools with a view. But is it not all about views and a lodge which surpasses anything else in Tanzania at that level of luxury, it is also about a wonderful sensitively managed area, fabulous guides, great game viewing and a feeling of space where ever you are. The reserve has three lodges, all completely different and definitely combinable within one stay. I have to go back if only for the view...
