Riding camels at Sosian Ranch

We went on a trip to Kenya and had a really amazing day at Sosian Ranch on the Laikipia Plateau. We rode camels in the morning, and it was my first time riding anything other than a horse! All of the camels were very loud and had extremely green tongues. One of the boys on our trip had a rather angry camel and was grunted at several times. When we got up onto the camels, we had to hold on very tight because it was a bumpy ride getting to the top, with the camels shifting and swaying. During our ride, the villagers who had brought the camels told me I was riding a famous camel, Macarena, who had won seven camel races in Northern Kenya, which was very exciting.
The Samburu villagers who had brought the camels seemed majestic, not really talking very much and with their traditional garb, made it seem as if we had gone back in time. However, they were not fond of us taking pictures of them. We rode through the wilderness, seeing beautiful eagles on the way. When we came to the spot where we were to stop and switch with the others who had walked along side the camels, we were pretty sore. We had some trouble walking when we got down, which was a definite photo op for the parents.
After we had switched, some people went in the jeep to go on a game drive. As we drove, someone spotted an elephant. We drove up closer and realised that there were four elephants, three babies and a mother. We got so close, maybe fifteen yards away. It was amazing seeing these huge animals so close. The little baby elephant was a bit curious and kept on peeking out from behind a bush. This day was one of many amazing days, but this one was so fun, and it stood out from the rest in my memory.
