Maldivian Bliss

My wife, daughters and I visited the Maldives for the first time in April. We expected paradise and were not disappointed! Beautiful islands, luxurious accommodation and amazing, friendly service from everyone. Relaxed is the code...you virtually hand over your shoes and spend your entire time barefoot. While we could happily bask the days away idling in the sun, sea and pools, (in between copious amounts of wining and dining) what perhaps surprised us was how much there was to do...if you felt like it. Lots of water sports, cruising with dolphins, fishing, learning to cook, gym, yoga and spa treatments galore.
Georgia (aged 15) and I did our first ever dive...there was no long training session in a pool, just 20 minutes instruction, 5 minutes in the Indian Ocean shallows, and then "Shall we go to see the Fishes?" and we were straight onto the reef... an amazing experience.
The highlights of our holiday were being taken by speedboat to our own deserted sandbank to watch the sunset, with nothing but champagne to accompany us, as well as the three hour "Ritual " underwater spa experience my wife and I had. Gazing at the fish - sharks included - passing the panoramic windows while both being given the most relaxing range of treatments. Our Ritual started at around 5pm and as the light changed to dusk and dark, so the species changed too. The whole three hours felt like thirty minutes. Like most men, I am not an experienced spa user but I came out feeling just blissful.
