Half Term in Africa with the children

Having been brought up in Zimbabwe and with my son William being now the same age as I was when I left. It was the perfect time to show my family ‘my Africa.’ They have heard all of my stories but they are at such a lovely age as to be so open to learning. And Peter and Emanuel, our guide and driver, really knew how to involve them. To teach them and then to test them on what they had learned. It became a game.
Hen and Hattie really listened to what we wanted. They were truly brilliant. The guides were particularly special and we felt that Hen’s relationships with the lodges meant that we got extra special attention. My only regret is that we did it at Half Term when we might have done it for longer in the school holidays. William didn’t want to leave and I am now busy ordering animal books by the dozen on Amazon for him........the seed of interest has really been sown.
We wondered at a lioness with her cubs who had lost one of them the day before. We saw a leopard on a kill on a night drive. And I just love that space and that smell and that peace.......And I had forgotten the brilliant African nights. We had this amazing woman with us who really knew the stars and we learned so much.
I'm just so grateful to Henrietta Loyd for persuading me to take the children to Africa now. She was absolutely right.....they were the perfect age and it is a trip which will stay with them for ever.
