Finding our piece of paradise
Hilary & Christopher Morgan, Clients.
Day 3 11.03.08
'Fire and Water'
Early morning visit to the Poas Volcano with its vast grey crater and molten green sulphuric sludge. Then later a vist to La Paz Waterfall Gardens where there is a myriad of bird life including George Harrison's Baltimore Oriole. Dramatic waterfalls hidden away in a jungle gorge. The landscape and wildlife begins to weave a spell on us.
Day 7 15.03.08
'Planes, dust and dirt'
Chartered air taxi to Palmar Sur where we picked up a rental 4x4 and drove north up the pacific coast stopping at the sleepy Ballena National Park where the humpback whales pass through. At the surf town of Dominical the metalled road ran out and we found ourselves on a dusty, dirt track main road. We passed several heavy trucks and rickety bridges arriving at Manuel Antonio early afternoon. The buz and vibrancy of Manuel Antonio was a change of pace after quiet and peaceful Osa Peninsula.
Day 8 16.03.08
'Sloth sleuth, sunrise and sunset'
Dawn broke, golden light over a beautiful landscape stretching to the sea. Skipped breakfast and headed to Manuel Antonio National Park - Costa Rica's first national park. Breathtaking jungle beaches - catch it before the crowds and the army of wisecracking official guides armed with telescopes. Spotted a sloth an Agouti; a pig type creature with a roman nose.
Day 9 17.03.08
'Hot ferry, dusty roads and paradise'
Ferry to Paquera from Puentarenas busy due to Easter break. One and a half hour ferry trip with friendly Ticans off on their holidays. Saw a pair of frigate birds (no time off from bird watching). Dirt road to Santa Teresa from Cobana reached Flor Blanca 3.00 - paradise found. Beautiful hotel in the Balanese style right by a excellent surfing break. Garden full of lizards, birds and monkeys.
