The peace of Bhutan literally hits you on landing in Paro. After a spectacular flight over the Himalayas, you land in a place of total calm. There is no comparison to anywhere else in Asia. To anywhere else in the whole world.
The planning of the holiday was a collaboration between myself and Laura at c+l and she delivered the real thing, everywhere that I went. Bhutan truly is the best place in the world and there are no other people like the Bhutanese. They really live their Buddhism. I wanted to experience and embrace the culture in the same way as I have experienced it in Kenya where I chair a charity.
Laura planned so many things but the guide who looked after me and the people I met let me into their daily world as it happened. I really was part of it. By chance a couple of villages away they were celebrating puja and the whole house was opened up to anyone and everyone in three days of feasting and celebration. An afternoon was spent in prayer and thanks and I was welcomed just like everyone else who came down to the village. The local lama and monks from the monastery officiated and it was a very special time.
Next time, I want to go further East to visit Bumthang.........I absolutely loved Bhutan and I will definitely return as soon as I can.
