Bush Yoga – go on, give it a go!
Hattie Broadhead, Destination Expert.
Having got up at the crack of dawn and already seen a leopard, several elephant and a pride of lion by breakfast time, Duncan the manager at Londolozi Tree Camp suggested that I calm my senses down with a bush yoga session. Somewhat tentatively I made my way along to the yoga platform, where Zeph, one of Londolozi's three dedicated yoga teachers, was sitting crossed legged and awaiting my arrival.
Having assessed my degree of flexibility and posture etc, we lunged into a series of surprisingly familiar poses, each of which have been renamed to fit in with the bush surroundings. Eagle and tree poses remain, but downward facing dog has become wild dog and big toe pose has quite sensibly transformed into ostrich! It was wonderful to be contorting my body in the great outdoors rather than the usual stuffy confines of my London gym, and there was a sublime moment at the end when Zeph rubbed a delicious zingy-smelling balm into my neck, the scent of which completely set me up for the rest of the day. So the verdict on bush yoga: I agree it may not be for everyone, but I urge you to give it a go – who knows, you might surprise yourself!
