My c+l memory

Bahia experience

Norbert Seiler, Client

We love the 1986 movie "The Mission" with Robert DeNiro and Jeremy Irons which features Iguassu Falls and we'd seen photographs of them, but until you are there, nothing prepares you for their sheer size and overwhelming beauty. On the Brazilian side there is a trail over the river, next to a gigantic cataratas (prepare to get wet!), while the Argentinian side offers access to a platform directly above the most breathtaking of all the falls,  the "Devil's Throat".  The falls are surrounded by lush rainforest teeming with wildlife and on our way to the river we spotted a family of monkeys making their way through the treetops.

After Iguassu we moved on to Salvador in Bahia. We happened to be in town on the day when the state of Bahia celebrates its independence day (2 July), and so ended up in the middle of a street party, complete with performances of the world-famous percussion school Olodom and the Bahian marital arts technique, "Capoeira". As for music, infectious rhythms could be heard everywhere. A band playing for guests of a street café, near our hotel was of such high quality that it would have deserved a full house at a top London venue.

The last few days on our Brazilian journey we spent in Trancoso. We wanted a quiet, comfortable resort on the coast, and chose a small hotel ("Pousada) in an idyllic setting, on a beautiful deserted beach. We were there just before the Brazilian winter holidays, so we had the place almost to ourselves. We enjoyed great food, fresh coconut water and our fair share of Caiprinhas in our delightful private garden.
