A tour of the architecture

The architectural tour of Phnom Penh was sensational. Jo at c+l had planned it specifically for me but Yam Sokly, the architecture student she had lined up for me as guide, was brilliant at adapting every moment to my interests. As soon as he saw the building, aspect of life or detail which interested me his flexibility and knowledge meant that I got to see more than I could ever have hoped to see.
It is difficult to identify the highlight of a trip which took in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia but this day with Sokly must rate very high. I cried when I left Hue, felt humbled by Luang Prabang and the three day boat trip on the Mekong Delta was a revelation but for minute by minute insight and education, that day of architectural discovery in Cambodia was something very special.
