My c+l memory

'you never forget how to ride a bike'

Alex Townsend, Destination Expert

Bring Bring! Bring Bring! Oh what a comfortable bed and oh how I didn’t want to leave it. Bring Bring, Bring Bring! It was my 6am wakeup call.

After a quick breakfast we staggered downstairs. We were introduced to our guide, Tobo - quite a character with endless energy - and to our mode of transport for the day…a bicycle.

Having not ridden a bicycle in 5 years and my mother in 10 years, we were a little anxious about attacking the streets of Bangkok! But that old phrase – ‘you never forget how to ride a bike’ rang true and off we whizzed!

Exploring the back streets, we down ventured down hidden alleyways - some so narrow our knees were within inches of grazing the walls – places you never would have gone without a trusted and experienced guide to make you feel totally at ease.

We were invited into local Thai people's houses for tea, and then boarded long tail boats to take us across the river to diverse landscapes. Here we suddenly found ourselves cycling through narrow walkways surrounded by jungle-like landscapes complete with birdlife, pond life, and vibrant local life.

Four hours hurtled by and in no time we were coming to the end of our adventure. We parked outside a local restaurant on the river edge and tucked into a delicious and well earned Pad Thai, whilst watching the world go by.
